Five rare and expensive cars owned by celebrities

Star power usually translates into horsepower and these five celebs have a lot of both.

There’s no denying celebs have the cash to splash in basically every aspect of their lives, but there are few who choose to spend their hard-earned cash on some very luxurious cars. Here are five of the most expensive celebrity cars.

Jay Leno – 1994 McLaren F1

The comedian and former late-night talk show host is an avid car collector and has a collection worth close to US$50 million… yes that’s right, $50 million! But by far, one of the most expensive cars in his collection is a 1994 McLaren F1 worth US$12 million ALONE. Here’s hoping his impressive car is insured!

Jerry Seinfeld - Porsche 959

What is it with comedians and cars? And… coffee? Jerry Seinfeld is another funny man with a love for cars and expensive taste.

The Porsche 959 is a modern classic rear-engine 4WD sports car, which was sold between 1986 and 1993. With one of the biggest collections of Porsche supercars in the world, Jerry is said to have paid US$700,000 for this model, with it being one of just 337 units ever produced.

At the time of its first debut, the Porsche 959 was the fastest road-going sports car in the world, and had a maximum speed of 211 km/h.

Kanye West – Lamborghini Aventador

Ye… What to say about Ye? When he’s not going off on Instagram or divorcing one of the biggest stars in the world (we see you Kim), he’s driving around in some expensive rides.

One such ride is a US$750,000 Lamborghini Aventador, which was gifted to him by ex-wife Kim Kardashian on his 35th birthday. What a birthday gift!

Styled by Filippo Perini, Head of Design at Italdesign in Italy, Ye had the Aventador’s original black gloss paint job switched up to a matte black finish to make it look like it had just rolled off the set of a Batman movie.

Floyd Mayweather – Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

As one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, boxer Floyd Mayweather also loves an expensive car, owning a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita. Interestingly, the CCXR Trevita is a flex-fuel vehicle meaning it can run on E85 or E100 ethanol fuel and still hit 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.

Ultra-modern carmaker Koenigsegg only built two units of this car, which is specifically designed for the super-rich. The world boxing champ didn’t spare any expense on this either, paying US$4.6 million for the exclusivity in 2015.

He would later sell it at auction for $2.6 million in 2017. The boxer has one of the fastest-growing car collections in the world and also owns a fleet of expensive cars in Miami and Los Angeles.

Jay-Z – Maybach Exelero

The music superstar has the definition of a limited-edition car, owning a Maybach Exelero which is among the rarest cars in the world. Built in 2004, it was first owned by rapper, Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams, and later sold it to Jay-Z, who was willing to pay any price!

Reported to be worth US$8 million, the car sports a twin-turbo V12 engine that delivers 700 horsepower and the capability of going from 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, with launch speed only brought down slightly by the fact that it weighs a massive 2.6 tonnes, although it can still reach a top speed of 351 km/h!

And if you’re thinking to yourself, ‘where have I seen this rare beauty before?’ the magnificent set of wheels was featured in Jay-Z's music video for Lost One feat. Chrisette Michele.
