Genesis is celebrating its one-millionth car sale since the South Korean luxury brand was established in November 2015.
Selling 690,177 cars in Korea and a further 318,627 in export markets – including 3401 in Australia (to the end of August 2022) – Genesis says it hit the million mark just two years and three months after it surpassed its half-million milestone back in May 2021.
Highlighting its rapid recent growth, Genesis sold 215,128 cars globally last year alone, and from January 2023 until the end of this August the Korean rival for Lexus and Mercedes-Benz has managed to shift a record 154,035 cars.
The brand’s best-selling model remains the G80 sedan that has alone sold an incredible 390,738 units since it was first introduced back in 2016.
The GV80 (173,882) and the mid-size GV70 (160,965) SUVs have both contributed to the Genesis’ rapid growth.
In Australia, the brand is on a similarly upward trajectory, passing 1000 sales in a calendar year for the first time last year (1039).
To the end of August this year, Genesis has already passed its previous annual record, collecting 1251 sales. The GV70 is its highest-selling model (745).
Genesis now operates in 17 markets globally, with more than 50 of its boutique brand experience retail outlets now in operation.
Set to transition to a luxury EV brand, Genesis has already announced that from 2025 every model it introduces will be pure-electric as it phases out combustion power across the range.
It plans to be a zero-emissions brand by 2030 and carbon-neutral by 2035.
Later this year, Genesis says it will introduce the glamourous GV80 Coupe and the updated GV80 SUV.
A third unnamed model is also primed to be introduced that will compete in an “entirely new segment” that is set to be a either a two-door coupe or convertible.
