Mercedes-Benz has released a single image of its new hard-core G 500 4x4². And no, the 'squared' notation is not a mistake.
Essentially a four-wheeled version of the berserk G 63 AMG 6x6, the G500 4x4² will likely be built in larger numbers than its mutated six-wheeler cousin.
The G 63 AMG 6x6 was a hand-built model originally limited to around 30 units, but more than 100 have reportedly been sold — primarily in the Middle East — at a price of more than $700,000.
Merc's newt four-wheeled, non-AMG hard-core off-roader, which remains officially a concept at this stage, has a boosted ride height, modified body work, huge 22-inch wheels with heavy-duty 325/55 tyres and carbon-fibre add-ons. Power comes from a 310kW version of Mercedes' 5.5-litre turbo V8.
Expect the G 500 4x4² to make its global public premiere at the Geneva motor show on March 3.
