Mercedes-AMG has announced it will launch an even faster, more extreme version of its two-door sports flagship, dubbed the Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO, at the Los Angeles motor show next week.
Designed to challenge the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and claimed to feature a whole host of modifications and updates from the AMG GT3 and AMG GT4 race cars, the Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO is expected to feature a completely rethought suspension and aero package to outgun the regular AMG GT R, which produces 430kW and 700Nm.
It's not known how much power the hardcore Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO could pack, but considering the same twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 produces 450kW and 850Nm in the family-friendly AMG E 63 S sedan and wagon, many are expecting it to eclipse those towering figures.
Whatever the numbers, expect the GT R PRO to hit 100km/h in less than 3.2 seconds and for it to be capable of a sub-7min Nurburgring lap time.
As well as the flagship performance model, design updates for the rest of the AMG GT range are set to be revealed at the LA show. Expect to see some of the styling cues of the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe grafted onto the smaller two-door coupe and convertible.
More details of the wild Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO are expected to be revealed in the build-up to its big LA reveal.
