GWM-Haval Australia has priced the new 2022 Haval H6 GT from $40,990 drive-away, with two versions currently making their way into local showrooms.
The local line-up for the swoopy mid-size SUV comprises the entry-level Lux 2WD and the all-paw Ultra 4WD, the latter of which carries a higher $46,490 drive-away asking price, though it offers more than just all-wheel drive.
More importantly, the H6 GT variants carry a steep $5000 premium over their respective H6 wagon counterparts, some of which is justified by an active exhaust system and the re-engineering work that went into creating the coupe-like roofline.
Both variants are powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (150kW/320Nm) as the H6 wagon, and both employ a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to handle gear shifting duties.
Haval is quoting a combined fuel consumption of between 7.5-8.4L/100km and both versions are happy to run on 91-octane unleaded petrol.
Despite being the ‘entry-level’ variant of the two-pronged range, the H6 GT Lux is jam-packed full of equipment with highlights including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment interface with smartphone mirroring and satellite navigation, an eight-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, Comfort-Tek eco-leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, powered tailgate and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
The whole package rolls on 19-inch wheels as standard and comes with full LED exterior lighting, tyre pressure monitoring, power seat adjustment for the driver and roof rails.
Given it was just awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, the H6 GT also some with a wealth of active safety features like autonomous emergency, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, emergency lane keeping, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and driver drowsiness detection, just the name the headline acts.
The flagship Ultra 4WD predictably ups the ante in terms of both spec and standard safety gear, however, it also boasts a heap of chassis upgrades to help the driving experience match the sporty exterior.
Black 19-inch wheels are shod with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport tyres which pair with the four-mode all-wheel drive system to offer more grip in every environment.
The interior has been spruced up through the addition of a bigger 12.3-inch infotainment system, heated, cooled and power adjustable front seats, a head-up display, wireless charging pad, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
Other exclusive features include heated door mirrors, a hands-free tailgate and fully autonomous parking while rear cross traffic alert is added to the safety suite.
Despite its higher pricing (than the wagon) and niche styling, GWM-Haval Australia is expecting to shift 400 H6 GTs per month, which would help the Chinese brand post a record-breaking year of sales.
“Off the back of a record sales performance in June, GWM dealers have warmly welcomed the new Haval H6 GT as another model to help continue the company's sales momentum into the second half,” said the company today.
“As with all GWM vehicles, the Haval H6 GT comes with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, five years roadside assistance and five years capped price servicing.”
