Haval Jolion Hybrid here next month

Chinese brand solidifies itself as a major SUV player with new electrified Jolion

GWM Haval Australia is adding another hybrid to its ranks, today confirming the 2022 Haval Jolion Hybrid for our market at a drive-away price of $40,990.

Due in local dealerships early next month, the first examples of the small electrified SUV have already started arriving in Australia, and Haval has confirmed there are plenty more on the way.

Perched some $6505 above the limited-run Haval Jolion Vanta, the Hybrid is easily the most expensive Jolion variant offered in Australia to date.

However, it justifies its extra cost with its obviously more advanced powertrain and the drastically improved outputs it produces.

The unit in question is the same 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain as seen in the bigger Haval H6 Hybrid, albeit with combined outputs of 139kW/375Nm rather than the mid-sizer’s 179kW/530Nm.

Still, the hybrid easily out-muscles the modest 110kW/210Nm outputs of the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder that powers its internal combustion stablemates.

All that extra grunt is channelled to the front wheels via Haval’s dual-clutch ‘Direct Hybrid Transmission’ (DHT).

The powertrain’s combined fuel economy in this latest application is an even lower 5.0L/100km, which is nevertheless down on key rivals like the Toyota C-HR Hybrid (4.3L/100km) and box-fresh Kia Niro Hybrid (4.0L/100km), but the Jolion spanks the pair of them in terms of power and torque.

As we’ve come to expect from Haval, the Jolion Hybrid is packed full of standard equipment, with just the highlights including Comfortek leather-clad seats with power adjustment for the driver, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment interface, smartphone mirroring, head-up display, wireless phone charging and a panoramic sunroof.

The active safety suite is equally as expansive, comprising autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian, bicycle and crossroad detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, rear cross traffic alert with braking, driver drowsiness and distraction detection and tyre pressure monitoring.

“Joining the larger Haval H6 Hybrid, the Jolion Hybrid becomes GWM’s second offering in an NEV range which is expected to grow further in 2023.”
