Honda has established an online portal, Honda Developer Studio, to tap into the burgeoning software application development market.
Car producers world-wide are striving to speed up development and implementation of technology to keep up with the expectations and pace of this modern lifestyle. Smartphone technology is extending its reach into many aspects of our daily routine, marketing departments see this increasingly as a way to sell products.
But to do this they need content.
"Allowing developers to work directly with Honda engineers will encourage them to consider the engineering principles, driver safety and privacy considerations that are integral in the development of in-vehicle apps," said Honda Australia Director Stephen Collins.
The Honda Developer Studio is a product of the Honda Silicon Valley Lab, an innovative laboratory in the San Francisco Bay Area created to accelerate Honda's global information technology research and development efforts.
Nick Sugimoto, a senior program director for Honda Silicon Valley Lab said "We want to foster app developer participation and enthusiasm and help them dream up new experiences that will give drivers access to the latest in digital innovation."
Locally Honda is yet to roll out any Apple CarPlay equipped vehicles to Australia, though all Jazz models feature the Display Audio system enabling Siri Eyes Free Mode and HDMI port as standard. This enables compatibility with Apple's iPhone Siri system and allows some content to be displayed on the seven inch screen.
