Honda cash flows for Queensland flood victims
Importer contributes $100,000 for disaster reliefHonda has officially announced a cash donation for the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Fund.
The company's charitable arm, the Honda Foundation, has set aside $100,000 for the welfare of Queenslanders affected by the massive floods in the news since late last year.
"These floods have devastated communities in Queensland and will have ramifications across Australia for many months to come," said Chairman of the Honda Foundation, Lindsay Smalley. "The Honda Foundation wants to show its support to the people of Queensland during this very difficult time."
Honda was one of the first companies to respond to an earlier natural disaster, the Victorian bushfires in 2009. The company's example may trigger further donations from the automotive industry for the Queensland floods.
Honda established the Foundation in 1992 and diverts $5 from the dealer and $10 from the company for each new Honda vehicle sold. To date, the Foundation has donated $7.5 million to local charities and organisations.
