MINI has announced it will uncover two new hot John Cooper Works (JCW) models at the 2024 Paris motor show as part of wider plans to roll out high-performance versions of every vehicle it makes.
The BMW-owned brand hasn’t revealed the identity of the two models but says both will be powered by all-electric powertrains, pointing to the recently leaked MINI Cooper JCW E hot hatch and a fast MINI Aceman JCW SUV.
According to the leak out of China, the Cooper JCW E will pack a punchy 190kW – up from the Cooper SE’s 160kW – and spring from 0-100km/h time of about five seconds on the way to an anticipated top speed of 200km/h.
There’s no word yet on what battery the JCW E will get, but we do know weighs a hefty 1670kg and isn’t expected to match the Cooper SE’s 401km WLTP-verified range.
A limited-slip differential, overhauled chassis, track-oriented rolling stock, big brakes and torque vectoring are all primed for inclusion and have become par for the course on electric performance cars.
It’s worth noting the electric Cooper is based on a GWM platform – rather than a BMW architecture – thought to be able to support dual-motors, suggesting an even-quicker all-wheel drive GP version could also be in the pipeline.
As for the Aceman, very little is known as this stage, but it would make sense for it to share its powertrain and chassis hardware seeing as it also rides on the GWM platform, albeit a with bigger dimensions.
Initially, both the 2025 Cooper JCW E and Aceman JCW will be made in China, although that will change in 2026 when production moves back to MINI’s British home in Oxford to avoid the recent EU tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles.
MINI is also primed to deliver hot JCW versions of the combustion-powered three-door hatch (F66) as well as the latest Countryman SUV.
