Lifting a Silverado 1500 to a 4200kg GVM gives owners meaningful headroom over the factory rating, which translates into more usable payload for tools, drawers, canopies, long-range fuel and tow ball weight without operating on the edge of the vehicle's limits. The 3.5-inch lift and 35-inch tyre fitment add ground clearance and a more purposeful stance, while keeping the package within what can be legally certified for road use.

“We realised owners of these trucks were wanting to push the boundaries more and replicate builds from the US, so we set out on being able to achieve this legally, Australia-wide,” a CTO Industries spokesperson said.

As with CTO's existing upgrades, the build is engineered rather than bolted together. Suspension components are matched to the load the vehicle is designed to carry, with the aim of more controlled handling when loaded, more consistent ride quality and less stress on key components over time. The result is a Silverado 1500 that can tow and carry at the same time, with the certification to back it up.

The appeal of a full-size pickup is tied closely to how it is used, and the new package suits two owners in particular.

The long-distance caravanner is the most obvious. Hitch a heavy van to a stock truck and the combination of tow ball download, a full tank, water, recovery gear and a couple of passengers can quietly eat into the factory GVM long before the van itself is loaded. The higher rating gives that owner the margin to pack for an extended lap of the country and still sit comfortably within legal limits, with suspension tuned to keep the rig stable on long highway stints and rougher back roads.

The second is the work and touring dual-use build. For owners who carry tools and equipment through the week and switch to a family touring setup on weekends, payload is consumed from both directions. The upgraded GVM creates room for a tray or canopy, a dual-battery system and the gear that comes with both jobs, so the same truck can earn its keep on a Monday and head bush on a Saturday without compromise.

CTO's GVM program is now available nationally through a network of installation partners spread across multiple states. This is not a franchise model.
