Kia teases all-new Toyota Aurion rival

Korean car-maker shows off sketches of its future big sedan. Looks like like a four-door Optima coupe

Kia has teased pictures of its replacement for the current Cadenza sedan it sells in the US, Canada, China, Brazil and the Middle East.

Kia hasn’t revealed if its new longer, lower and wider saloon will share the first gen’s front-wheel drive architecture, but one theory is the replacement Cadenza could go rear-wheel drive, sharing a platform with a forthcoming Genesis G90 - Hyundai’s new premium brand’s first big sedan.

Under the bonnet it’s a safe bet the engine range will be a petrol-only affair, kicking off with a small 2.0-litre turbo and stretching to the current car’s 3.3-litre V6. A hybrid version is also likely.

A natural rival to the Toyota Aurion, the Cadenza has been on sale since 2010 but the Korean car-maker has never found a business case for importing its large luxo barge here - and that’s not expected to change with the new model.
