Lamborghini Accademia coming to Oz

Lamborghini will ramp up its at-the-limit driver experiences in 2016 with more cars and more events

Expected to take place between the second and third quarter of 2016, the first Lamborghini Accademia advanced course in Australia will be held at Phillip Island circuit and joins the Esperienza beginner events that have already been introduced here.

We had a chance to try out the Lamborghini Esperienza course early in 2015 with an AWD Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 at Sydney Motorsport Park. But when the Lamborghini Accademia circus arrives here in 2016 it will likely launch the new rear-drive Huracan LP 580-2 in this country and up the stakes in the thrills department.

We've just driven the Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 in the Middle East, scoring it 86 out of 100. With a Sport mode that in effect is a default drift setting we came away with big smiles. Coupled with the fact the car costs around $50K less than the $428,000 AWD Huracan LP 610-4, this could see it become the most popular Lamborghini Down Under.

The exotic Italian car maker reckons more than 2000 drivers will participate in its Esperienza and Accademia driver programs which will take place across Europe, America, Asia and now Australia. The highest level of the Accademia course is the 'Pilota' program, for drivers who intend to compete in races.

A maximum of 24 drivers can participate in each course on a given day, and Lamborghini also offer winter editions in Europe and North America, complete with snow driving.

Lamborghini says the Esperienza "is the first step for those who wish to get closer to the world of Lamborghini" while the Accademia lets attendees drive on track or ice.

"Each Accademia offers two types of program – intensive and advanced – giving the participants the opportunity to take their first steps towards the world of competitive racing," says the company.
