Lamborghini preparing fastest-ever car for Geneva

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini says it’s busily preparing what it promises will be its fastest-ever model in time for next month’s Geneva motor show.

The as yet unnamed model is said to be a limited-volume production car homologated for road use. Lamborghini executives say the model will astound the supercar world with lap times far quicker than any current contender in its class.

“We want to shock the world with this car,” said Lamborghini design director, Filippo Perini. “It will be fast not only in terms of top speed, but especially in lap times.”

Speculation suggests the model could be a higher performance edition of the Aventador or newly released Aventador Roadster similar to the 2010 Paris motor show hit, Sesto Elemento or the 2012 Geneva motor show’s Lamborghini Aventador J.

And although the show car is likely to be produced in extremely limited numbers, it will provide some hint as to the future design direction of the brand.

“We are always using one-off cars and concept cars as a test for the production car,” explained Mr Perini.

“I hate companies that are producing concepts just to make show, just for fun. To me that’s a mess because they [are] losing time, energy and consuming the resources of the planet. We are trying to use our concepts, when we do a concept, as a test with the potential customer to see if they are made with the right [design] language.”

And if you’re thinking of reaching for the cheque book, Mr Perini says you might already have been beaten to the punch. The concept car, an super-exclusive vehicle ripe for the well-heeled Lamborghini collector’s garage, is likely to have already been sold, possibly while existing as little yet more than a sketch.

“Usually we sell it,” Mr Perini said. Adding that collectors purchased Lamborghini’s previous show-stopper, the Aventador J, for around 1.9 million Euros.

That car was bought sight unseen before it was even built and it’s expected the Geneva show car will have much the same fate.
