Landmark 2026 Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is arriving soon

Mitsubishi Australia has finally confirmed its first mass market EV: the 2026 ASX VR-e. Due Down Under in Q4 of this year, the Foxtron-sourced crossover will be offered in four main flavours, however local pricing and finer specification details are yet to be confirmed.

The Finer Details
As one might expect, the range will comprise the LS, Aspire, Exceed and GSR trim levels while single- and dual-motor powertrains should be on offer across multiple grades.
The ASX VR-e nameplate is a concoction of two of Mitsubishi’s most iconic models: the sales-rich ASX compact SUV and the performance-focused Galant VR-4 sedan, albeit with a modern EV spin.
“ASX VR-e marks a significant milestone in our refreshed Mitsubishi range as the first BEV since the i-MiEV,” Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shunichi Kihara said.
“The new Mitsubishi ASX VR-e continues this path of innovation with an immersive infotainment system, bold design and excellent electric driving performance.”
Overseas specs of the 2026 Foxtron Bria the ASX VR-e is derived from reveal several key metrics, including what sort of range and performance we can expect from the locally tuned Mitsubishi.
All versions will likely feature a 57.7kWh lithium?iron?phosphate?battery pack which will supposedly provide up to 561km (NEDC) range for the two-wheel drive single-motor variants and up to 466km for the all-paw dual-motors.
The single-motor powertrain should output 171kW and be capable of 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds whereas the punchier dual-motors are good for 299kW and 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Mitsubishi hasn’t confirmed if or how many of these numbers will apply to the ASX VR-e, but the odds are on seeing as it and the Bria are a badge engineering effort.
The Road Ahead
More details, including pricing, will inevitably come to light in the leadup to the ASX VR-e’s local release next quarter (October-December).
Competition for the new model will come primarily from the growing crop of compact Chinese EVs, including but not limited to the MG4, BYD Atto 2, GAC AION UT, Zeekr X and GWM Ora 5, however legacy rivals like the Kia EV3 and eventually the Hyundai IONIQ 3 will also be in the conversation.
