Lexus gets creative with LF-Z cabin concepts

Footwear designer, digital artist and Japanese fashion label reimagine battery-powered SUV's cabin

Lexus has teamed up with pioneering artists and designers to reimagine the 2021 Lexus LF-Z Electrified concept car's interior.

The resulting wild, wacky and achingly cool results (you can judge which is which) are the work of American footwear designer Salehe Bembury, Czech digital artist Ondrej Zunka and Japanese fashion label Hender Scheme.

The first cabin, designed by award-winning footwear designer Bembury, uses natural materials like cedar wood, cork and even granite and mixes them with bright colours.

Drawing from his day job, Bembury uses the same 'hairy' suede found in sneakers on the concept car's seat backs.

Ondrej Zunka's treatment of the Lexus LF-Z Electrified cabin is said to fuse sci-fi materials and "multidimensional hues" that apparently "transcend both time and space".

The fresh take on a Lexus cabin is said to use intelligent lighting that creates a visceral sensation, while unusual silicone seat cushions possess memory foam-like properties.

There's also liberal use of brushed chrome.

Finally, the Hender Scheme employs traditional leather craftsmanship to the LF-Z with a twist.

The untreated hides are said to develop their own unique patina over time, with the colour claimed to differ from each car.

The concept is claimed to reflect the passage of time and the driver's relationship with the vehicle.

It's not known if Lexus plans to incorporate any of the designs into the future production car that's believed to arrive in 2022.
