Lexus Vision Gran Turismo racer revealed

Japanese car maker exposes latest design: Lexus LF-LC GT Vision Gran Turismo

We've seen virtual vehicles from Mazda, Mercedes and Mitsubishi designed specifically for the Gran Turismo 6 video game, and now it's Lexus' turn.

But the Lexus LF-LC GT Vision Gran Turismo is different to many of the other concept designs for the Playstation videogame seen so far, in that it's not a complete flight of fancy with turbine propulsion and wild aerodynamics.

Indeed, it looks as though it could form the basis of a GT3 race car one day. However this is unlikely as Lexus has already confirmed it will enter a GT3 race car version of the RC F coupe into the popular racing category.

Although Lexus has not revealed details on the LF-LC GT Vision GT's (yes there's a double GT in there) beating heart – potentially a high-output version of the company's 5.0-litre quad-cam V8 engine or possibly a hybrid V6 – the car maker says the vehicle builds on the LF-LC luxury concept coupe first seen at the 2012 Detroit motor show.

Whatever propels the virtual Lexus, it requires some extra thermal efficiency via ventilated bonnet and air vents behind the front wheels.

The regular LF-LC has been confirmed for production as a large luxury coupe that clearly translates well into race car form. The GT Vision iteration boasts a more aggressive appearance via the fitment and a full drop body kit, including side skirts, a low front splitter and a deep rear diffuser. There's also a huge GT3-inspired wing hovering over the back end, designed to increase downforce over the rear axle.

Other notable design features include the LED headlights, Lexus' trademark spindle grille, and brake lights inspired by the afterburners of a jet fighter.

Full details of the Lexus LF-LC GT Vision Gran Turismo will be revealed from March 2015.
