Mazda recall in USA for ignition switch
Potential fire risk expected to warrant a recall in Australia for volume-selling models from the 1990sMazda in the USA has issued a recall notice for as many as 1.2 million cars, most of them volume-selling models also sold in Australia during the same period.
According to the company, vehicles sold between 1989 and 1998 may have an ignition switch that could pose a fire risk. An excessive amount of grease at the contact points within the switch may 'carbonize' over a prolonged period, increasing electrical conductivity in the ignition switch's thermal base. This may lead to smoke and, in a worst-case scenario, fire.
To date, there have been no reported injuries in America, and Mazda will begin conducting repairs from December. It's understood that all the cars affected have also been sold in Australia, including the 1992-93 MX-3 (sold here as the Eunos 30X).

1989-1998 MPV
1993-1998 626
1993-1995 929
1993-1997 MX-6
1992-1993 MX-3
