Mazda3 sedan and hatch updated

Minor price hikes for Mazda’s small car in return for extra kit as new variants bolster the range

Mazda Australia has quietly updated the Mazda3, adding fresh features and new model variants to the small sedan and hatch line-up.

Following initial details released in September, the updated 2022 Mazda3 range now opens at $26,340 plus on-road costs for the Mazda3 G20 Pure manual. Auto adds $1000.

Carrying over an unchanged 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the entry-level G20 Pure now adds a leather-appointed steering wheel and gear knob to its list of standard equipment.

Elsewhere in the range, prices have risen between $200 and $350, while Mazda has also introduced three new full-time variants – G20e Evolve, G25 Evolve SP manual and G25 Evolve SP automatic.

Based on the second-tier G20 Evolve which is now priced $200 higher from $27,790 plus ORCs, the auto-only G20e Evolve M Hybrid adds a fuel-saving 24-volt mild-hybrid system to the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine it shares with G20 grades.

Standard features on the MY22 Mazda3 G20e Evolve M Hybrid include keyless entry with push-button start, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with position memory, auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, 360-degree parking camera, front parking sensors and driver attention warning.

The other new model grade, the Mazda3 G25 Evolve SP – available in either manual (from $31,190) or auto (+$1000) – adds sporty features such as black 18-inch alloy wheels and a blacked-out grille and side mirror caps. There’s also black cloth seats with red accents inside.

Powertrains in G25 grades also go unchanged, employing a carryover 138kW/250Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that comes paired to a choice of auto or manual transmission.

Elsewhere, the flagship X20 Astina is up $300 (from $42,390) and will bring improved engine sound and ride comfort, although Mazda hasn’t detailed how those changes are achieved.

Meanwhile, the manual transmission option for the X20 Astina – which comes powered by a smarter 132kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech – has been deleted, leaving an auto-only flagship grade.
