If e-scooters were as commonplace in the 1980s and ’90s as they are today, there’s no doubt Formula 1 legend and dare-devil, the late Ayrton Senna, would be ripping around the F1 paddock on one.
And this Pure x McLaren Senna Special Edition is exactly what he’d probably be zipping around on, complete with a colour scheme to match the Brazilian racer’s iconic yellow/blue/green helmet.
Said to fuse high-performance engineering and pioneering design, the special-edition e-scooter range is the result of a collaboration between McLaren, e-mobility company Pure Electric and the Senna Foundation.
The limited-edition e-scooter is said to offer 31 miles of range (around 50km) and produce up to 710W of power.
It’s also IP65-rated (water-resistant) and comes with puncture-resistant 10-inch tyres, indicators on the handlebar and foot pads, and front and rear lighting.
Pure says the Senna special is also 70 per cent more slimline than other e-scooters, with folding foot pads and handlebars for easy storage.
But its unique design means it’s not quite as compact as other e-scooters from Pure, and the riding position is what makes it stand out most, with the rider’s feet placed either side of the chassis for a “more stable, controlled ride”.
The man behind Pure Electric, Adam Norris – yes, F1 driver Lando Norris’ dad – said Senna was his hero.
“After Lando’s first win with McLaren, this collaboration is something that I am incredibly proud of. Ayrton Senna was my childhood hero,” said Norris.
“I feel very honoured to be a part of celebrating Senna’s incredible legacy. The team have taken F1-inspired principles to build the world’s best e-scooter.”
There’s no word on how many Pure x McLaren Senna e-scooters will be built, but stocks are said to be “very limited”.
