Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe teased

German car-maker releases pics of its 375kW BMW M4 rival; Should hit 100km/h in less than four seconds

Mercedes-AMG is building up to the launch of the C 63 Coupe by revealing teasing pictures of how its BMW M4 rival is shaping up ahead of its world debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 as the sedan and wagon, the coupe is expected to be available with the same muscular 375kW/700Nm enabling it to reach 100km/h in less than four seconds and crack 300km/h with its limiter removed.

Sharing the same platform as the sedan and wagon, the new coupe will receive its own chassis tune, while its lower centre of gravity, wider track and new suspension components could give it the edge over its BMW rival.

Like the sedan, the C 63 AMG will also be offered in a lower state of tune in some markets (probably not Australia), with the normal ‘non-S’ model expected to come with 350kW/650Nm.

Both cars will feed their immense power and torque to the road via AMG’s SpeedShift seven-speed automatic transmission. Helping traction, the C 63 and C 63 S will both come with mechanical limited-slip differentials, although the S will come with the added advantage of a faster-reacting electronically-controlled diff.

Weight-saving should also play a role. Like the sedan and wagon, the new high performance coupe is expected to weigh as much as 20kg less than the car it replaces. An even lighter, more hard-core Black Series is also thought to be in development.

Expect more teases of the C-Class flagship ahead of its official unveil at the Frankfurt motor show this September.
