The Mercedes-AMG GT line-up in Australia has a new entry point – but there’s a catch.
Orders are now open for the new Mercedes-AMG GT Night Edition, which lands in Australia in the third quarter of 2021 and lowers the entry price of the car-maker’s beguiling coupe line-up to $294,200 plus on-road costs.
That’s a $47,000 saving on the existing GT C coupe ($341,200 plus ORCs) that currently opens the range and a $33,430 premium on the former GT entry point (260,770) last offered in 2019.
The catch is there are only 15 examples of the Night Edition available.
Power comes from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 petrol, but AMG has adjusted outputs to 390kW and 670Nm – that’s a 20kW/10Nm hair cut on the more expensive GT C, but 40kW/40Nm up on than the previous entry car.
The Night Edition apportions drive to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The official nought to 100km/h acceleration claim is 3.8 seconds, which is 0.1sec slower than the GT C but 0.2sec faster than the former GT.
Performance goodies abound, including adaptive AMG ride control suspension, an electronically-controlled limited-slip different and a composite braking system based on 390mm front rotors and 360mm rear rotors.
The Night Edition lives up to its name with AMG’s ‘Exterior Night Package’ and a swag of blacked-out features including the grille, headlight elements and an AMG carbon-fibre roof with dark-tinted side panels.
There are also black brake callipers within staggered width and diameter Y-spoke alloy wheels measuring 19 inches up front and 20 inches at the rear.
The Night Edition features requisite centre console badging and a ‘piano lacquer’ interior.
Those features are over and above standard equipment comprising dual-zone climate control, heated and electrically-adjustable AMG performance seats with memory function, tinted windows, 10-speaker Burmester sound, a suede AMG Dinamica steering wheel and headlining, and an AMG Interior Night Package.
On the safety front, there are eight airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, reversing camera and Pre-safe accident system.
Three different colour options for the Mercedes-AMG GT Night Edition will include Obsidan Black, Selenite Grey and Graphite Grey Magno.
