Mercedes-Benz slashes prices of A-Class and GLE

Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced some major price cuts for certain members of its A-Class and GLE portfolios to the tune of $6000 and $12,000 respectively.

The models in question are the A 200 (now from $56,900 + ORCs) and GLE 300d (now from $134,900 + ORCs) with the revisions coming a month after Mercedes wiped $7000 off the price of the GLA 200 compact SUV in the wake of the success of a budget-focused special edition.

The premium German brand has recorded a sales decline of up to 50 per cent on some of its top-selling models, spurring these most recent price revision.

It’s not all good news for those in the market for a new Benz however, seeing as the price cuts come as the cost of some previously standard features that have quietly slipped back onto the options list.

Metallic paint is now a $600 extra – Manufaktur Patagonia Red a substantial $1500 – while the panoramic sunroof that was previously included is now also a $1500 option.

Weirdly, specifying both options ($2100 total) returns the asking price to $62,900 (+$6000), with Mercedes declaring the reduced pricing only applicable to the base spec.

Alterations to the GLE 300d meantime include Artico synthetic leather in place of genuine hide, which is now a $2900 option, 20-inch wheels instead of 21s ($2300 to restore), the biggest 22-inch hoops now cost $3900 instead of $1500 while the illuminated running boards are now a $1300 option.

Unlike the A-Class however, Mercedes is allowing buyers to pick and choose options freely, meaning if you add everything back, in you’ll still be around $5500 better off than before.
