Mercedes-Benz EQT concept previewed

Latest pure-electric Benz to be based on latest T-Class or Citan van; set to be a hit with taxi fleets

A new teaser for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQT concept has been released ahead of the full-electric compact family wagon's unveiling on May 10.

Understood to be close to the production version that will launch in 2022, the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQT is heavily based in the combustion-powered T-Class and small Citan delivery van that is currently being readied.

Borrowing styling cues from the flagship Mercedes-Benz EQS limo, the Mercedes-Benz EQT gets the star pattern grille and dark black panel surface that conveniently provides plenty of space to hide the sensors required for its semi-autonomous driving aids.

Beneath the skin, it's believed the EQT will be based on the same platform as the combustion-powered vans. These are the same underpinnings as the next-generation Renault Kangoo and Nissan's next small van.

Inside, expect the German car-maker's latest MBUX infotainment system that includes its "Hey Mercedes" on-board assistant, plus class-leading levels of tech and connectivity.

Suiting urban life, the EQT should come with surprisingly brisk acceleration. There's no word yet on range, but expect the van-based people-mover to cover around 250km between top-ups.

All will be revealed on May 10, including whether or not the EQT will be offered to markets outside Europe.
