More Benz C-Class models revealed… And a new SLK to boot!
Our spies have been busy up 'north' -- this time capturing two new C-Class variants, as well as the facelifted SLK roadsterIt's a busy time for cold weather testing in the Northern Hemisphere. We can vouch for the fact on the basis of the quantity of new-to-the-web cars being outed by our spymasters at Carparazzi alone!
Captured here for the first time are the wagon and Sports Coupe variants of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, plus the facelifted SLK.
While the C-Class will get its first show outing in just a couple of weeks at the Geneva Show (for more on the C's recent launch at the Mercedes-Benz museum click here), the Estate (M-B for wagon) is not expected to be shown until the Frankfurt Show in September.
Thus with the sedan not expected to arrive in Oz until at least mid-year, that probably translates to an first or perhaps second quarter 2008 arrival for the five-door.
As can been seen clearly hereabouts, the wagon builds on the new sedan's more aggressive lines. Up in size, it should also offer more luggage capacity than the current C-Class, though we'd draw the line at suggesting Mercedes will offer a third-row seat as per its E-Class Estate.
Snapped in northern Sweden with the Estate, the Sports Coupe is being seen for the first time in its new guise. Though it clearly features the same new look as the new model C-Class estate and sedan, the Sports Coupe is built on the mechanics of the existing platform – production of which will be moved to Brazil (as revealed here first earlier this month).
The Sports Coupe is also a 2008 prospect for Down Under.
Finally, the mildly tweaked SLK… Also scheduled for an unveiling at the Frankfurt Show in September, the SLK's new look is likely to feature diagonal bars underneath the Formula-One nose to mimic the front end design of Mercedes' F1 racers. That said it also appears that the prominent nose of the car may have been toned down just a little. Other new exterior features are new taillights and different under-bumper air-intakes.
As the driver of the prototype snapped here undergoing tests near Mercedes' HQ in Stuttgart was very keen to cover the dashboard, there may be some interior changes as well.
