Creating go-faster versions of the iconic Chevy Corvette has traditionally been an exclusively American preserve, but German tuner Loma Performance has tossed its hat into the ring via the sinister matte black coupe you see here.
Derived from a standard C6 Corvette, it's dubbed the 'C6.BlackforceOne', and the company says the moniker was coined to establish a connection with the Boeing 'Air Force One' that transports Barack Obama (and formerly his predecessors) on intercontinental jaunts.
We're struggling to see the link between a tuned 'Vette and a personalised jumbo jet but, what the heck, we'll humour them anyway.
The C6.BlackforceOne makes its debut on Saturday, November 28 at the Essen motor show in Germany, and the company says production will be limited to 25 vehicles (all are numbered and come with a full guarantee). Pricing (ex-Germany) starts at 190,000 euros (just over $310k in our money).
The key technical highlight of the C6.BlackforceOne is a twin-turbo conversion for the donor 6.2-litre V8, yielding an absurd 584kW (compared with 321kW for the standard C6 Corvette). Even the 7.0-litre Z06 (377kW) and 6.2-litre supercharged ZR1 (476kW) seem a bit weedy by comparison.
Drive is relayed to the rear wheels by a Loma Performance carbonfibre sports clutch, carbonfibre driveshafts and an overhauled transmission.
Its maker quotes a 3.4sec 0-100km/h split, accompanied by "furious roars from the LOMA Cup Sport Superlight exhaust unit". We'll take that to mean that it sounds sufficiently meaty for a musclecar.
Top speed is quoted at "only" 330km/h as Loma says it believes in "good acceleration in all situations rather final speed as a status symbol."
Loma Performance says it can install a carbonfibre/ceramic brake unit from Mov'it for deceleration to match the brutal acceleration. The C6.BlackforceOne rides on adjustable coilover suspension (it allows separate adjustment of pressure and rebound damping), and even the stabilisers are adjustable.
The carbonfibre wheelarch flares increase width by about 10cm (the car is nearly 2m wide), and within these are stuffed Michelin Sport Cup high-performance tyres (275/30R19 at the front and 335/25R20 at the rear) wrapped around blacked-out OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT rims.
Other body mods include side skirts (available with or without visible screws), a front lip spoiler and rear diffuser -- all fabricated from carbonfibre. There's also an optional Loma Performance rear spoiler that's said to be easy to fit and detach.
Colour choices include Stealth matt black, Eurofighter matt grey and White Storm matt white, but other hues are available on request. The interior makeover brings acres of carbonfibre and Alcantara trim, and customers can choose from 300 (!) different types of leather.
