New 2024 Kia K3 heralds Rio replacement

But Korean brand’s new-generation light car remains off the agenda for Australia

Kia has released a cryptic teaser image of its all-new 2024 Kia K3 compact car, which is a name the Korean brand has previously used for the Kia Cerato in its home market but now appears to have been repurposed for its incoming one-size-smaller Kia Rio replacement.

Kia is now gearing up to launch the K3 in Mexico rather than South Korea, with an insider confirming to carsales that the image shown here is the incoming Kia Rio compact sedan and hatch replacement that will only be built in left-hand drive.

A close look at the illuminated tail-light signature of the teaser image shows marked differences to the next-generation Cerato prototype spotted testing in June, so we clearly still have a while to go before the new Cerato breaks cover and turns up Down Under.

Meanwhile, Kia has previously confirmed the Rio replacement would be launched overseas by the end of the year, so the August 9 reveal announced today aligns neatly with that timeline.

In conjunction with the teaser, Kia said: “The Kia K3 sedan combines sophisticated design and a spacious interior, redefining market segments and drawing attention from upper-segment buyers.”
