Mercedes says its new E-Class will be officially unveiled at the New York auto show in April but spy shots circulating on the internet give us an idea as to how the next model will look.
The new E has had only a slight facelift to the grille and rear, and appears to share styling cues with its big brother S-Class.
The front air dam has been redesigned, incorporating three seperate intakes rather than the narrow slits on the current E-Class, which was released as a 2003 model.
The rear taillight lenses have also been updated and the chrome trim on the bootlid is more pronounced.
Apart from styling updates the new E-Class will also benefit from an engine upgrade, equipped with the 5.5-litre (as opposed to the outgoing model's 5.0-litre) V8 engine; ex-S550. Claimed output figures of 285kW and 489Nm keeps it in line with, or more likely ahead of, BMW's 550i and Audi's A6.
The entry E350 with seven-speed auto reportedly remains in the line-up and Mercedes-Benz is aiming to include the 'Bluetec' diesel introduced at the Detroit auto show early this year.
