Electric Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX with 1200km range teased
Flagship battery-powered Benz features world's longest EV rangeMercedes-Benz has previewed its advanced all-new Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX prototype electric car that features an incredible 1207km range.
Shown as part of an online press conference detailing how Mercedes-Benz will transition to zero-emissions vehicles earlier than expected, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQXX is claimed to not only be capable of travelling further between charges than any current-generation pure-electric car, but is also said to offer unmatched efficiency.
Previously teased in October last year, the latest image released is a head-on shot of the sleek teardrop-shaped coupe that proves designers and engineers have worked together to make the EQXX as slippery as possible to extend its range.
This sees the Benz coupe feature a small frontal area, plus a smooth body and a shallow-raked windscreen. There's also the absence of a grille, vents and other traditional openings, although there is a pair of ducts on the bonnet.
Boosting efficiency and reducing weight are both key to its extra-long range, rather than packaging a huge battery within the prototype's svelte body.
Back in 2020, Mercedes-Benz revealed that the EQXX would be capable of travelling from Beijing to Shanghai on a single charge, suggesting the electric coupe could have a range of at least 1207km.
No further technical details have been revealed but it's thought the EQXX will remain a one-off prototype that will be used to showcase the car-maker's next-generation EV R&D.
Commenting on the EQXX during the online event, Mercedes-Benz head of R&D, Markus Schafer, said: “Today I want to share our plans to go really beyond, to see a new frontier of range and efficiency, to find a new way of working, to speed up product development and tech advancement.
“We have set up a group of our engineers to take on an extraordinary task, to build the longest and highest efficiency electric car the world has ever seen. This is a serious project, chasing next-generation technologies.
"We intend to incorporate the learning into the next generation of series production cars.”
It's tipped the Mercedes-Benz EQXX prototype is set for an official unveil this September at the Munich motor show.
