The Land Rover Discovery Sport will be available come with a range of new mild-hybrid (MHEV) diesel engines, as well as upgraded infotainment and driver assistance technology when it arrives Down Under in early 2021.
Set to hit local showrooms from next February, the 21MY Land Rover Discovery Sport will be offered with the same four-cylinder P200 and P250 petrol drivetrains currently on offer, plus the British brand’s latest Ingenium mild-hybrid D165 (120kW) and D200 (150kW) turbo-diesel engines.
The new electrified oil-burners are said to offer smoother idle-stop functionality, as well as lower CO2 and fuel consumption, without having to plug them in to charge.
Mirroring the 21MY Range Rover Evoque also announced today, trim grades will be limited to the R-Dynamic S, SE and HSE – the latter of which will be available only in petrol form – with a total of just five model variants to choose from (down from 10).
The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport range will be priced from $65,700 plus on-road costs (up more than $5000 from $60,500 currently) and Land Rover has cut the current model’s D150 and D180 diesel donks from next year’s line-up.
New features for the 5+2-seat medium SUV include the British car-maker’s latest Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment systems (depending on grade), which include Spotify integration, dual-phone Bluetooth connectivity, wireless phone charging, over-the-air software updates and more.
As with the 2021 Range Rover Evoque, the new Disco Sport will come with a cabin air filtration system to ensure clean air inside the cabin. It also uses a cabin air ionisation feature to filter out fine particulate matter, allergens, pollen and smells, according to Land Rover.
A ‘Purify’ mode can be selected to monitor the quality of the outside air and display it on the touch-screen for occupants to see, offering reassurance that the cabin air is cleaner than the outside air.
Meanwhile, a new 360-degree camera will offer drivers a bird’s-eye view of the car at speeds of up to 30km/h, while a radars at the back of the SUV will monitor the vehicle’s rear-end to avoid or reduce the severity of a collision from behind.
Land Rover says the new safety systems complement the camera tech introduced in 2019, with smart camera technology able to stitch together images for enhanced visibility.
