New Mitsubishi Outlander recalled

Software fault leads Mitsubishi to call back more than 6500 examples of its all-new mid-size SUV

The new Mitsubishi Outlander has been hit with a nationwide safety recall due to software issues that could affect its reversing camera.

The Japanese car-maker says a software problem with the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) unit is to blame, affecting a total of 6552 Outlander models built between 2021 and 2022.

That means the majority of new Outlander vehicles sold since launch in November 2021 are affected, and all variants of the new mid-size SUV are involved, including ES, LS, Aspire, Exceed and Exceed Tourer.

Mitsubishi says the issue may prevent the reversing camera to display rear images as intended via the 9.0-inch central infotainment touch-screen.

This could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle, says Mitsubishi.

The fault does not affect the front or rear parking sensors that are standard across the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander line-up.

Mitsubishi Australia will contact affected owners in writing and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi dealer to have the IVI software updated, free of charge.
