Nissan has unveiled the latest version of its popular X-Trail SUV in Tokyo this week, powered by the Japanese brand’s latest e-POWER hybrid system and expected to be locally revealed later this year.

Unveiled alongside the quirky third-generation Juke compact SUV, the brand’s new mid-size X-Trail SUV will come powered by the more advanced petrol-electric powertrain used in the smaller Qashqai e-POWER which features a five-in-one unit said to reduce complexity and weight.
That’s promised to bring enhanced efficiency and performance compared to the current X-Trail e-POWER offered Down Under, while cheaper petrol-only versions which currently kick off the medium SUV range from $38,140 plus on-road costs and are all but certain to be discontinued in favour of an electrified line-up as per its arch-rival, the Toyota RAV4; although it’s yet to be confirmed.

Nissan says beyond e-POWER, it also plans to offer a broader range of electrified powertrains to “meet diverse customer needs across global markets” but exactly what that means for Australia remains to be seen.
As for the new X-Trail – dubbed Rogue in the US – details are few and far between but a range of exterior tweaks including redesigned headlights and a new grille are the most obvious, while Nissan’s ProPILOT safety suite comes standard.
Nissan Australia is yet to confirm timing for the new X-Trail’s local arrival however the RAV4 rival is expected to go on sale in the US later this year, with Aussie sales likely to begin in 2027.
X-Trail is the firm’s best-selling model Down Under, however, sales for the mid-size SUV have been on the decline in recent years and in 2025 it was outsold by key rivals like the RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and the related Mitsubishi Outlander.
