Peugeot will sever its link with Mitsubishi and go its own way with the next 4008, ditching the upright ASX-based design of the current model for the look of a sportier SUV coupe.
Created to go head-to-head with the Toyota C-HR, according to Auto Express, the next-gen 4008 will blend some of the current 3008's styling cues with a rakish sporty coupe-like profile.
On sale in 2020, the 4008 will get an individual front design that will include a more aggressive grille and distinctive LED running lights, along with a new full width light bar at the rear.
Inside, the French car maker's SUV gets the firm's minimalist i-Cockpit cabin that combines a small steering wheel and high-set digital instruments.
Based on parent company PSA's EMP2 modular platform, the 4008 will share its turbocharged petrol and diesels with the 3008 and 5008 SUVs but engineers are expected to give the firm's first SUV coupe a sporty chassis tune.
Despite emphasis on sportiness, according to the British mag, the 4008 will still miss out on being given the full GTI treatment, but Peugeot Sport may create a powerful 220kW hybrid version it will badge 'GT'.
