The next-generation Porsche 911 Targa, based on the latest 992-series 911, has been previewed ahead of its official global online reveal on Monday (May 18).
Originally, the open-air 911's world debut was supposed to happen at the Beijing motor show at the end of April, but those plans were scuttled after the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the Chinese show back to late September.
These first teaser images of the new Porsche 911 Targa, now set for reveal via the car-maker's '9:11 Magazine' YouTube channel, appear to suggest it will have a silhouette that's closer to the coupe than ever before.
Once again, Porsche's halfway house between a coupe and full cabrioletsports the classic rollover bar and glass rear screen but also a development of the 911 Cabrio's scissor folding roof mechanism that neatly folds away the targa panel at the touch of a button.
Expected to arrive in Australia by the end of this year, the fourth-generation 911 Targa is likely to launch with a line-up that mirrors the 911 Carrera 4, since it will again be exclusively all-wheel drive.
That means it will be powered by the 911's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six with either 283kW or 331kW and combined with either seven-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmissions.
Stay tuned as all will be revealed next week.
