Nio hits record 136,748 battery-swaps in a single day

Brand smashes previous record by reaching 5698 swaps per hour over Chinese New Year

The Nio Group has set a new record for the number of battery swaps carried out over a 24-hour period, with 136,748 swaps carried out over the Chinese New Year.

The new record, set on February 3, saw Nio’s 3106 battery swap stations exchange an astonishing 5698 batteries-per-hour, with each station responsible for an average of 44 swaps.

Helping it achieve the new record, the Nio Group said any owners of its new Onvo would be given unlimited access to battery swaps along China’s highways between January 22 and February 12 – contributing 8000 of the total number on February 3.

Nio says it’s now on track to perform its 65th million battery swap later this week, with each exchange said to now take less than three minutes.

The battery-swapping EV maker has plans to launch Down Under, possibly by the end of the year, most likely with the Onvo L60 that has been built to rival the Tesla Model Y.

It’s not known if it will roll out battery-swap stations here, but despite only launching in Europe in 2021 with a limited line-up, it has already introduced 59 battery-swap stations there.

Speaking of which, the new record number of swaps did not include any battery exchanges that took place on February 3 in Europe.
