It may have been with us for eons in name, but the latest edition of the Nissan Patrol only arrived in local showrooms as recently as late 2019.
Two models, the Nissan Patrol Ti and Ti-L, make up the range, offering a broad choice of comfort and convenience features, so let's delve into the specification and pricing available to see which is the right one for you.
The $76,990 entry model Patrol Ti model comes with the following standard features:
A palette of six colours is offered and if gun metallic isn't to your liking you'll be forking over $595 for one of the other five premium hues.
The good news is you can save some bucks here as both the Ti and $92,790 Ti-L Nissan Patrols share the same standard safety features.
In addition to the usual anti-lock brakes, traction control and airbags, all Patrols feature a raft of driver-assist technologies including; hill start assist and hill descent control, off-road monitor, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlights, LED front fog lights and follow me home headlight function.
Then there's around-view monitoring, object detection, emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane intervention and departure warning, along with blind-spot monitoring and intervention.
The Ti Patrol has an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen that operates the CD/DVD functions, satellite navigation with traffic monitoring and AM/FM radio. Audio is played through six speakers. The steering wheel mounted controls allow you to operate the hands-free phone system and audio streaming while on the move.
A premium (Bose) 13-speaker audio system is yours when you tick the Ti-L box.
But that's not all, as the range-topping Ti-L Patrol also scores two second-row seat eight-inch entertainment screens, headphones and a remote control.
And if you want to let your passengers sprawl out more, opt for the Ti-L Patrol and its seven-seat capacity, one less than the Ti.
While both variants have tri-zone climate control, only the Ti-L offers heated and cooled front seats for extra comfort. And a sunroof with privacy glass is exclusive to the Ti-L flagship as well.
While the Ti makes do with an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, lumbar support and a six-way power adjustable front passenger seat, the extra outlay of $15,980 for the Ti-L lets you keep 'your' driving position thanks to the driver's memory seat with two settings that incorporates the position of the exterior mirrors and steering column.
But wait... There's more. The Ti-L Patrol's front console has a cool box function, a powered tilt and telescopic steering column, roof rails and a powered tailgate which is very handy.
It's a one-stop shop for the Nissan Patrol.
Both models are powered by a 5.6 litre V8 petrol engine producing 298kW and 560Nm, and matched to a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual mode and adaptive shift control.
There is also intelligent 4X4 with electronic 4WD selection and a rear helical limited-slip differential.
Pricing (plus on road costs):
Nissan Patrol Ti V8 auto – $76,990
Nissan Patrol Ti-L V8 auto – $92,790
While the step up to the Nissan Patrol Ti-L seems quite a big step up from the entry-level Ti variant, closer examination reveals it is a better value for money equation when you take into account the extra equipment and comfort you get. For the extra outlay (if paying cash) or a little extra each month on the lease, the Ti-L is hard to ignore.
