Peugeot 308 to be hybrid-only in 2025

French small car follows the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic down an electrified path

If you want a turbo-petrol, plug-in hybrid or wagon-bodied Peugeot 308 then you better get in quick because the entire 2024 line-up has just been gutted in favour of a singular hybrid variant.

As of Q1 next year, the sole 308 variant offered Down Under will be the 2025 Peugeot 308 GT Hybrid hatch which carries a heady starting price of $48,990 plus on-road costs – some $5000 more than the current turbo-petrol version.

The extra cash all goes towards the petrol-electric hybrid system that’s based around a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, compact electric motor and the 0.9kWh battery pack that sustains it.

The combination outputs 100kW/230Nm – up 4kW on the internal combustion version – and will supposedly sip 4.2L/100km on the combined cycle while emitting 95g of CO2 per kilometre.

A new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels and contributes to the almost 21 per cent fuel saving.

Like every other Peugeot GT, the 308 GT Hybrid will come loaded to its roof lining with equipment: matrix LED headlights, a 10-inch?digital instrument cluster, a heated sports steering wheel, eight-colour ambient lighting, Alcantara and faux leather upholstery, a 10-inch infotainment system, smartphone mirroring, frameless mirror, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera and premium sound system are all included as standard.

The whole package rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels and will be available in Obsession Blue, Okenite White, Artense Grey, Sellenium Grey, Nera Black and Elixir Red.

Headline driver aids and safety systems meantime comprise blind spot detection, lane departure warning with unmarked road edge detection, autonomous emergency braking, active lane following assist, advanced driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control with stop & go function.

A Peugeot Australia spokesperson told carsales anyone still thinking about securing themselves an internal combustion or plug-in hybrid 308, let alone a Sportwagon, would have to act quickly as factory orders for those variants have stopped being taken.
