Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition revealed

The latest special-edition Porsche 911 is for Zuffenhausen’s most ardent fans, emblazoned with the sort of classic touches that will be lost on the mainstream.

While the all-new, limited-edition (deep breath) Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition has seriously impressive vital statistics, such as its 331kW twin-turbo boxer engine that enables a 304km/h top speed, it's the smaller touches that make it special.

The $395,300 (plus on-road costs) machine arrives in Australia from October, and the use of corduroy accents on the two-tone leather seats and door trims hint at this vehicle's raison d'être – nostalgia.

Channelling classic Porsche from the 1950s and early ‘60s, the new model also features five retro exterior paint jobs, including Cherry Metallic, which are combined with vintage gold logos.

You can even get a matching Porsche Design watch. Sorry, 'chronograph'.

With classic motorsport influences in the exterior graphics and a Porsche Heritage badge on the engine cover at the back (which pays homage to the sigil given to a Porsche 356 that made it to the 100,000km mark), Porsche enthusiasts will be grinning like Cheshire cats.

Even the badge on the bonnet of the Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition – along with the wheel centre caps, steering wheel and key – have a unique heritage Porsche crest that was used in 1963.

Porsche's global boss, Oliver Blume bullishly declared that "No brand can translate these [classic] elements into the modern day as well as Porsche.

"With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in customers and fans alike," he added.

The special-edition Porker's visuals are topped off with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Carrera Exclusive Design wheels, hiding 'classic-look' black brake callipers.

Fitted with all of Porsche's modern tech toys, including adaptive chassis systems to make hard driving more engaging and driver assistance features to make long drives more relaxing, the Porsche 911 Targa 4S can accelerate to 100km/h in under 3.6 seconds when paired with the eight-speed dual-clutch auto transmission.

The super-special machine is the first of four collector cars that will form what Porsche calls its 'Heritage Design strategy'.

Just 992 examples of the Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Editions will be built and eager Australians can order one before first local deliveries in October.
