The facelifted 2021 Hyundai i30 hatch has begun rolling into showrooms around Australia priced from $23,420 plus on-road costs, representing a price rise of $2980 for the entry-level model variant.
The Korean auto brand has added extra safety equipment across the i30 hatchback range, in the form of collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning and lane keeping/following assist, which were previously part of a $1750 option pack on base grades.
The mid-life update for the 2021 Hyundai i30 hatch, Australia's second-best-selling passenger model after the Toyota Corolla, also includes new-look styling at the front and rear of the car, bringing more angular, sporty visuals to bear.
Taking on the Corolla, Mazda3 and Kia Cerato, Hyundai's revised small hatch will be joined by the first i30 Sedan, which will replace the Elantra nameplate later this month.
Hyundai i30 diesel variants have been boned, which means just two carryover four-cylinder engines now propel the mainstream i30 range: 2.0-litre petrol (120kW/203Nm) and 1.6-litre turbo-petrol (150kW/265Nm).
As was the case previously, six-speed manual gearboxes are available, along with a six- or seven-speed auto depending on the engine.
A more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (206kW/392Nm) is reserved for the updated 2021 Hyundai i30 N hot hatch, which arrives in the first half of next year and will be accompanied by an automatic transmission for the first time -- an all-new ‘Grin Shift’ eight-speed dual-clutch unit.
Hyundai has also rejigged the i30 hatch model line-up, replacing the entry-level i30 Go with the ‘i30’ model, and while the mid-range i30 Active ($26,920) remains, it is now auto-only. Along with the i30 Elite ($30,220), these three models are only offered with the 2.0-litre engine.
See below for the full price and equipment lists.
The Hyundai i30 N Line ($29,420) and N Line Premium ($34,220) get the 1.6-litre turbo engine and the seven-speed dual-clutch auto adds $2000 to their sticker price.
Standard features across the Hyundai i30 range include Australian-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, plus a 7.0-inch colour LCD ‘supervision’ instrument display.
Rear air-vents, a leather-clad steering wheel and gear lever plus an electronic park brake are also added. Automatic entry-level models also gets adaptive cruise control.
Step up to the i30 Active and things like larger 17-inch alloy wheels and leather-accented upholstery are added, while the i30 Elite gets a bigger, fancier 10.2-inch infotainment touch-screen system, smart key with push-button start, wireless phone charging and a premium audio system.
N Line variants gets sportier suspension matched with a ground-hugging sports body kit and LED headlights, while the N Line Premium adds a sunroof, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and front parking sensors.
The 2021 i30 small hatch is available in seven exterior colours: Fluidic Metal, Amazon Grey, Polar White, Phantom Black, Intense Blue, Fiery Red and the N Line-only Lava Orange. Metallic colours cost an extra $495.
Hyundai provides a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty across its range, along with a lifetime service plan (with the first 1500km service free of charge) plus 12 months of free roadside assistance.
