Schnitzer reveals tri-turbo BMW 150d
How do you make a BMW 1 Series more interesting? Give it a triple-turbo motorIt’s been a while since German hot-tuner AC Schnitzer went totally crazy on a BMW. It’s been Alpina’s year, with its 50th anniversary and all, but now Schnitzer’s on its way back.
BMW has had a couple of cracks at making the 1 Series into a pocket rocket, but not like this.
Schnitzer has pulled the tri-turbo diesel motor from the X5 and X6 M50d xDrive super-SUVs and crammed it inside the smallest BMW on sale.
Called the 150d, the baby Schnitzer uses the N57S 3.0-litre tri-turbo, but not just the standard 280kW/740Nm version, which is also seen in the M550d AWD overseas.
No, Schnitzer gives it 294kW of power an 800Nm of torque in the rear-wheel drive 150d, which is also the first car that’s to use this engine without a front differential.
Revealed at the recent Essen motor show in Germany, the three-door 1 Series-based 150d also features a range of AC Schnitzer cosmetic extras, including a unique body kit, wheels, suspension and brakes.
Given the 240kW turbo-petrol M135i hatch can hit 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, we reckon the 150d would do it in closer to four.
