Subaru has announced it will unwrap a “sharper and more focused” version of the Subaru BRZ at its upcoming Subiefest California on July 23.
No further details were released about the upgraded second-generation sports coupe alongside a teaser image of a BRZ-branded headlight.
Sending fans of the Subaru BRZ (and its twin, the Toyota GR 86) in a tailspin, the updated model is thought to mark a decade of the affordable Japanese sports car.
Subaru might be planning to launch new performance upgrades for the BRZ – or even a dedicated track-focused version that could feature bigger brakes, suspension upgrades and a high-downforce aero package.
Other rumours suggest the more focussed vehicle could be a prototype Subaru BRZ running Toyota’s 224kW 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from the GR Corolla, although it makes more sense for Toyota to debut that car first.
Alternatively, the US show car could simply preview the North American availability of STI-branded BRZ accessories that are already offered in Japan.
In the US, Toyota already offers a Performance Pack for its MY24 Toyota GR 86 that includes four-piston Brembo brakes, special Sachs dampers and other chassis tweaks.
Stay tuned as all will be revealed on Sunday (July 23).
