Smart teases new pure-electric model

Mysterious new pic suggests concept could preview all-new battery-powered car-share model

Smart has teased a picture of the all-new concept it plans to unveil at the Frankfurt motor show on September 11.

The mystery concept was teased on Instagram late last night, suggesting the Mercedes-Benz-owned car maker will reveal an all-new pure-electric car.

Set to share a platform, and hardware with Benz's forthcoming EQ brand, the new model is claimed to be the "smart vision of urban mobility for tomorrow".

The reference to "mobility" suggests instead of a car available to buyers, Smart might be readying a purpose-built car for urban car-share schemes.

Bearing an "on my way" number plate, the Smart show car hints at fully autonomous car technology that allows the car to be summoned by a customer using just a smart phone.
