The incoming 2025 Toyota GRMN Supra has been spotted by our spy photographers lapping the Nurburgring in Germany, armed with a new arsenal of aero aids.
Fresh GR camouflage is masking an aggressive set of bonnet vents, which we suspect will aid powertrain cooling as well as aerodynamic performance to the flagship sports car – and the fact it looks tougher is a bonus, too.
The previously seen canards and extended front splitter are still present along with the lightweight wheels, lowered suspension and high-performance braking package.
What has changed, however, is the design and size of the rear wing that’s now noticeably bigger than before and features a swan neck design with the main blade hung from the stands instead of mounted on top.
Porsche and various other brands have started using these designs to great effect recently – see the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS – with designers and engineers finding aero and stability benefits.
The change emphasises Toyota’s intent to make the GRMN Supra as capable as possible on track, which is further underlined by long-running rumours of a BMW M3 or M4-sourced powertrain and chassis hardware.
The current GR Supra is an accomplished sports car in its own right, but with a power bump of more than 40kW/100Nm on the cards as part of the GRMN transformation, combined with the aero and chassis enhancements, Toyota is clearly looking to wipe the floor with the Nissan Z NISMO, which debuted last year with an extra 11kW/45Nm over the standard Z as well as a bunch of track-focused chassis tweaks.
A concrete timeline on the hottest factory Supra to date – which could end up being called the Morizo – is still missing, but we expect the global debut to take place in the second half of this year ahead of an early 2025 release.
