SPY PICS: Angrier Hyundai IONIQ 6 spotted
All-new electric sedan spotted with N-spec rolling stock and obvious Prophecy concept styling cuesIt turns out the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6 might look more like the svelte Hyundai Prophecy concept than first thought, judging by these fresh images from our spy photographers in Europe.
One of our snappers spotted a heavily camouflaged version of the IONIQ 6 recharging at a German service station and, because the driver was not initially present, was able to get up close and personal with the looming all-electric sedan.
The two big revelations are the inclusion of what appears to be a more production-friendly version of the Prophecy concept’s vertical LED tail-light clusters and its floating whale-tail spoiler.
We can’t be sure exactly what form the spoiler will take, but the mass of raised camo around the vehicle’s boot area certainly suggests some sort of stylistic aero aid will be present.
Before being ushered away by the returning driver, our photographer was able to do a full lap around the car, snapping pics from just about every angle – including a close-up of the tyre profile and alloy wheel design.
The aggressive 20-inch wheels look suspiciously like something out of Hyundai’s N performance or N-Line catalogue, while the 245/40-profile tyres they’re wrapped in are super-sticky Pirelli P Zeros – the same ones fitted to the majority of the N model portfolio.
The plot is thickened further by the set of reasonably sized front stoppers we can see lurking behind the wheels, but we doubt this is an IONIQ 6 N given the standard car is yet to be officially revealed and the fact that it rides too high to be a bona-fide N variant.
That’s not to say the upcoming IONIQ 6 won’t spawn a dedicated N performance flagship at some stage; it’s just far more likely this is a higher-output N-Line equivalent.
As previously confirmed, the IONIQ 6 will be underpinned by the same bespoke e-GMP EV architecture as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 crossover, meaning we can reasonably expect the initial range to be comprise at least a 160kW/350Nm single-motor variant and a 225kW/605Nm dual-motor flagship.
Given spy shots of a full-fat IONIQ 5 N have been circulating out of the Nurburgring, it’s only reasonable to assume an IONIQ 6 N will also materialise further down the track.
