SPY PICS: Lamborghini Aventador successor spotted for the first time

Next-gen plug-in hybrid supercar undergoes high-speed testing on home soil in preparation for 2023 launch

The first example of Lamborghini’s next-generation flagship supercar has been spotted undergoing high-performance testing in Italy ahead of its official debut and market launch next year.

Very little is known about the new model other than its cylinder configuration and aspiration status – a free-breathing V12 – with the extra shove of a new plug-in hybrid system.

When all is said and done, the new model should eclipse the 597kW (800hp) mark given the last-hurrah Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae churns out 574kW/720Nm.

The new model’s torque figure should also be considerably higher than its predecessor’s on account of its electric motor(s).

Despite being draped in elaborate camouflage, it’s clear to see the Aventador’s successor will take on a sleeker and more futuristic look with what seems to be a lower nosecone and higher rear-end, however, Lambo’s classic supercar wedge silhouette has for the most part been retained.

While the camouflage and long focal length make it tricky to ascertain exact specifics, the front fascia design looks to take inspiration from the second-generation Lamborghini Gallardo in terms of the bumper design and integrated aero features, although the concept seems to have been dialled up 11, as is the traditional Lambo way.

Things at the back are even more radical than the bonkers Aventador, with four exhaust outlets protruding from between the tail-lights, below which looks to be a massive air vent of some sort and even bigger diffuser elements.

Above the quad exhausts is a subtle double-bubble spoiler, which could ultimately evolve into some kind of active aero, led into by a pair of understated aerofoils stemming from the roof.

Our spy photographers also told us this particular prototype was hiding yellow brake callipers behind its black alloys, more than likely acting on carbon-ceramic discs.
