SPY PICS: Mazda CX-60 undergoes final testing

Engineering program for all-new 2022 Mazda CX-60 SUV wraps up as global unveiling draws near

Just weeks from its global reveal, fresh spy shots of the 2022 Mazda CX-60 have emerged out of Germany showing a heavily camouflaged prototype undergoing its final stages of road testing.

Despite the elaborate camouflage, we’ve already seen the all-new medium/large SUV in all its glory after two examples of the Mazda CX-60 were caught being filmed and photographed last November.

We also know the family hauler will be powered by a series of longitudinal inline four- and six-cylinder engines comprising both petrol and diesel fuel types as well as a high-output plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Sources out of the global Mazda camp have also claimed the CX-60 engine line-up will be rolled out in a staggered manner, with the straight-six engine variants due to launch after the four-cylinder and PHEV models.

The same sources also confirmed the release of a new eight-speed automatic transmission in conjunction with the six-cylinder engines, which will send drive to either to the rear or all four wheels depending on the variant.

As the first model to spring from the Japanese brand’s so-called Large Product Group (which also includes the forthcoming Mazda CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90), the incoming CX-60 will have a premium position within the Mazda line-up and is the biggest indication yet of the company’s intention to push further upmarket.

Just two rows of seating will be offered in the CX-60, which will sit upstream of the ageing Mazda CX-5 that’s due for replacement in 2023.
