The ever-vigilant Automedia lenses have been at it again, this time nabbing Porsche’s 991 Series 911 GT2 sans disguise at the Nurburgring.
The GT2 borrows its 412kW/750Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six and dual-clutch PDK gearbox from the Turbo S, but – as has been the norm with past iterations – it makes do without the all-paw hardware of the latter, instead channelling drive to the tarmac via the rear wheels only.
That said, the GT2 will utilise the 911 Turbo’s four-wheel-steer system that allegedly provides exceptional levels of agility.
No performance figures are as yet available, but in straight-line terms the GT2 should more or less match the latest 911 Turbo S, which sprints to 100km/h in 3.1sec and on to 200km/h in 10.3sec. The Turbo S has also posted a 7min 26sec lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
The GT2 is expected to debut at next year’s Geneva motor show, and the following year Porsche will unleash an even more extreme GT2 RS, which will reportedly kick out in excess of 460kW.
Visually, the GT2 has a much beefier presence than the 911 Turbo, thanks to an aggressive front spoiler/splitter with a large central air intake flanked by generously proportioned brake-cooling ducts. There’s also an additional duct just ahead of the bonnet.
This test mule is shod with gloss-black, seven-spoke wheels that fill out the pumped guards, and just ahead of the rear wheel arch is an enlarged air intake to feed the twin-turbo six-pot.
A substantial fixed wing sits atop the rear engine cover, and lower down is a pair of exhaust tips that exit from the centre of car – this is in contrast to the four pipes that adorn the Turbo S (two positioned at each flank).
As before, the GT2 will be pitched at a more hardcore audience than that targeted by the 911 Turbo, with its price premium and rear-drive layout ensuring it remains an exclusive proposition.
