SPY PICS: Porsche Mission E snow job

Mule looks like a weird, jacked-up Panamera, but underneath is Porsche's first BEV

Porsche is well advanced developing a car to rival Tesla's Model S, as these spy pictures hint.

Caught testing in Finland, the pre-production vehicles pictured are battery/electric vehicle (BEV) mules wrapped in Panamera bodywork and based on the Mission E concept unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2015. The ride height makes additional room available for the BEV's battery, which reportedly holds enough charge for a 530km range.

As we reported at the end of 2015, the production BEV's 0-100km/h time is projected to be 3.5 seconds. In under 12 seconds it should be able to reach double that speed.

Porsche is understood to have developed an 800-Volt electrical system for the BEV. That's double the voltage of the current generation of electric vehicles. And Porsche is making claims for the production model that include fast charging – 15 minutes to bring the battery charge up to 80 per cent from flat.

It's believed that the BEV will enter production roughly two years from now, and may be followed by an all-electric SUV.
