Sub-one-tonne 2024 Mitsubishi Triton arrives

New derivative finally allows buyers to snap up ute with a novated lease

The latest 2024 Mitsubishi Triton ute is now available with additional payload options on the GLS and GSR trims following real-world feedback from buyers.

According to Mitsubishi Motors Australia, buyers requested the option of lower payloads to allow private purchasers of the Mitsubishi Triton to snap up the mid-size ute via salary sacrifice novated leases. Currently the regulations exclude one-tonne vehicles from the tax advantageous way of buying a car or ute.

“We have also taken on feedback from dealers, media and most importantly our customer base. The result is the introduction of an enhanced model range with the addition of variants that offer payloads of under 1000kg,” said Mitsubishi Australia CEO, Shaun Westcott.

Mitsubishi has yet to reveal the reduced payload figures for both the Trion GLS and GSR but it's thought the twin sub-tonne utes will still be capable of towing up to 3500kg.

Until the sub-1000kg versions arrived, Mitsubishi claimed that the payload for its 2024 Triton ranged from 1070kg to up to 1100kg.

Despite carrying less, Mitsubishi hasn't reduced the prices of either variant, with the GLS still priced from $59,090 (plus on-road costs) and $63,840 for the GSR (plus on-road costs).

Whichever Mitsubishi Triton you buy, all come equipped with a 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder turbo-diesel that produces 150kW and 470Nm of torque.

Currently a six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the line-up with a six-speed manual set to be introduced at a later date.
