Suzuki Jimny fans rejoice! Orders for the automatic version of the Japanese brand’s insanely popular pint-size off-roader are about to temporarily reopen, but the catch is there are only 500 up for grabs.
Orders for the two-pedal Jimny have been closed for the best part of nine months now, with Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota telling carsales in June the waitlist still stretched “well into 2024 for deliveries”.
The local operation now says it’s “reduced the massive back-order queue significantly” to the point that it has secured a “limited release” of another 500 units, however, no timeframe has been given as to when these additional vehicles will be delivered.
Sometime in 2024 seems the most likely eventuality, with orderbooks set to reopen on September 18 on a first-in, best-dressed basis and then close as soon as all 500 units are spoken for.
“In response to the resounding demand from our die-hard loyal Jimny fans, we’re thrilled to announce the release of a limited 500 auto units,” Pachota said via a press release.
“Don't miss your chance to claim one, as these Jimnys will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will sell out fast!”
There’s been no word on how preparations for the release of the long-awaited Jimny 5-Door, which had more than 1000 pre-orders submitted as of June, despite pricing and local specification details not being announced yet.
Last we heard, the press launch for the first Jimny 5-Door was ‘loosely’ set for mid-November, when Australian pricing and spec details will be announced ahead of first local deliveries from early 2024.
Homologation data uncovered by carsales mid-year revealed the five-door was approved for sale in Australia in both manual and automatic forms, but only one trim level.
