Toyota has repriced the local Tarago peoplemover line up. The 2.4-litre four-cylinder GLi model now starts at $48,990 -- a saving of $3500, reducing the Tarago's entry start-up to "the same level as in March 2006".
Next-up model, the 2.4-litre GLX is $2000 cheaper, now at $51,990 and the 3.5-litre V6-equipped GLi and range-topping Ultima models start at $53,990 and $71,990; bringing savings of $2300 and $1300 respectively.
The 3.5-litre GLX version has a "spec-related price increase" of $1390, through the inclusion of a power sliding side door (as-used by the Ultima), and now costs $59,990.
Savings in fuel consumption have come by way of a new continuously variable transmission applied to the 2.4-litre models, replacing the conventional four-speed auto offered in the outgoing model. Combined rating for the four-cylinder Tarago is now 8.9L/100km.
The new CVT can be operated in manual mode to access the unit's seven steps. Toyota says the transmission's software will prevent over-revving and in hilly terrain, it "counters excessive gear hunting and, on downhill runs, initiates down-shifts to increase engine braking". V6 Tarago continues with the six-speed auto.
All models come with push-button engine start and Toyota's Optitron instrumentation, which incorporates LED lighting for increased clarity and less eye strain. The Tarago's interior has also been updated with new upholstery cloth and trim tones, and the audio system has been upgraded to include Bluetooth streaming.
GLX Tarago (both the four-cylinder and V6) features rear privacy glass and the V6 version now comes with high-intensity headlights with swivelling function, and the 10-spoke 17-inch alloys used by the outgoing Ultima model. The Ultima now gets 15-spoke 17-inch wheels while the GLi models use 16-inch wheels (with caps).
The range-topper also boasts upgraded rear-seat entertainment package with a high-resolution 9-inch colour display.
Tarago's repricing includes savings on the V6 GLX and Ultima models due to the slight shift in the Luxury Car Tax threshold announced July 1. The Kluger Grande, LandCruiser 200 and most Prado models are also affected.
